Ignore unassociated alerts

Hi,

Just installed OME for the first time.

My first concern regards that sheer quantity of alerts appearing for all manner of devices that I do not want OME to concern itself with. Looking through the forums I have seen similar questions arising but the solution has never been one that I am in a position to implement.

The situation is that we have many, many servers out their in our enterprise, all sending out traps regularly. We have different tools to manage the traps for products from different suppliers, but essentialy all the traps go to the same destination server(s) where these various SNMP manager tools (like OME) run. Essentialy I would like OME "only" to concern itself with the traps that arrive from the servers that I have discovered with it, in other words "if it ain't on my list, it's bein ignored!".

I have tried to ignore the alerts from specific sources, but always get the "unable to associate the device for this alert" message. I have no desire to associate all our (thousands of) devices just so that I can then configure OME to ignore them. That would result in a database far bigger than it needs to be just to cover our miniscule (by comparison) DELL estate.

Essentialy the question is: Can OME be configured to ignore all alerts from unassociated devices?

At the moment it looks like OME is recieving and perhaps storing thousands of irrelevant alerts every day, I can only assume that these alerts are being stored somewhere in the database which, at this rate, will grow far to big far to quickly.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Nick
