Dell support advising uninstallation of Open Manage v7 - causes issue with OME

Hi

Dell support are advising uninstalling OpenManage v7 on PowerEdge T300 as apparently they have seen issues with freezing/rebooting of the server. They claim v7 is not recommended for these boxes yet it is clearly offered for download on the drivers/updates page of the Dell site for this model.

We had 7.4.0 installed on the server for a long time and only recently have experienced occasional freezing issues with the server, possibly when the system memory becomes very low we cannot say 100% (it is an SBS server and typically memory is always low!). We suspected a hardware issue, Dell support say it is OpenManage causing the problem.

They recommend installation of OpenManage 6.5 on the server. The problem with this is that after installation of 6.5, OME2 can only see the name of the server and that it is up, no inventory or monitoring of components remotely is possible. If we reinstall v7, full functionality is restored.

So the question is, are we being spun a line by Dell support in relation to v7+, and if it really is an issue with v7+ specifically on these boxes what is being done to address the problem in a v7 update? Or should we be pressing for more hardware diagnostics/fixes? Apparently the initial DSET did not show a problem with the hardware. Can OME2 properly monitor a 6.5 T300 installation?

Thanks in advance.
