OME / OMSA and SNMPv3

$

hey,

wondering if OME finally supports snmpv3 traps/queries as ITA did only snmpv1/2c which is why we had to drop that product.

Also one more question on OMSA/snmp. It seems that DELL provides only x86 installation for both x86 and x64 platforms and does provides only 32bit extension agent for SNMP (for windows systems)... is there any plan to release 64bit version? or at least 64bit extension agents for SNMP?

thanks in advance

OME 1.3 issue on port 1278 when iDRAC pulls update

$

Morning all

I recently installed a test server - Server 2012 and OME 1.3.

When I open the home page on port 2607 using SSL it works fine and I can access the console. However when I try and push updates there is an error message that port 1278 requires 128-bit SSL.

This should only be an http page and it is accessed by the server receiving updates to download the updates to the local Lifecycle controller.

I have checked IIS and no where are there any SSL settings for the WEB service.

Has anyone had similar issues?

Thanks

Sean

Alerting

I have a PowerEdge R710 that is constantly reporting errors in its Hardware Log "The memory module 1 temperature is greater than the upper warning threhold" and "Power Supply redundancy is lost"  In the Alerts log there are no errors of this nature. The server is registered in OME and configured with email alerts. As this information is only reporting to the Hardware logs no snmp alerts are generated. This seems odd as we would like to know when these type of events occur. I don't really understnd the difference of Alerts and Hardware log messages.

OME and Windows services monitoring tools integration?

Hello obviously you could integrate OME with SCOM in order to monitor windows services, but does anyone know whether there are any free tools that will sit nicely with OME to do this?

many thanks,

OME updates needs alot more pre-reqs??

Hello

I have OME v1.1.0.6063 installed from a previous testing phase.

I would like to go live and do some updates so I figured it would be a good idea to update OME and DRM.

Running the OME install asks for alot more pre-reqs than before (IIS roles, MS silverlight, Visual Studio)

Is this just me, or did the previous versions not require this?

Would it be detrimental to use the old OME version?

I would rather not install these programs / roles, which will make security hardening more of an issue than before.

Thanks

OME 1.3 Hangs at Splash Screen

I upgraded from 1.2.1 to 1.3 and everything was working correctly. Now I'm unable to login to the OME Web page, it hangs at the splash screen. Double clicking on the splash screen shows critical errors during the DataCache.LoadCheck(). Any ideas how to resolve this problem? Thanks, Robert

Hi there,

I have upgraded to OME 1.3 from 1.2, and can no longer log in - It just hangs on the splash screen.

Install log + splash screen error is below. Can you see where it went wrong?

I see connections in database, also in dbo.Version table I see record with new 1.3 version. Tried reinstall completely - the same. Previous version was 1.2.1, OS is WS 2008 R2. Egils

Device Classification

Hello,

I have servers that are being detected by OME, however, they are not being classified as a server. I believe this has something to do with the OMSA on the server not being read? But I'm not sure. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Compliance not updating

Hello,

We lately have found that compliance status doesn't update after deploying new packages.

For example, we pushed a new Lifecycle controller version to a bunch of servers. After, we did an inventory update and the servers were still non-compliant. However, the package was installed (confirmed when we tried to install it manually). Restarting DSM services on the remote servers didn't helped. Only a server reboot fixed that. Obviously we can't reboot all our servers just to update the compliance status.

OME is 1.3, managed servers are Win 2008 R2 or 2012 R2 using OMSA 7.3 or 7.4.

SCOM trap forwarding to OME

Hi Guys,

I've got SCOM in my environment and I'm happy with it. However OME has some advantages like the support assist plug-in.

Therefore I would like to know if there is a way to forward my SCOM traps of Dell server hardware to OME. So I can make use of the automatic case creation etc.

Thanks

Hans

OME and HBAs

$

Hello,

I have configured OME to monitor some servers using the iDRAC and I've noticed that when I unplug a power supply or a network cable a trap is sent to OME and an alert is displayed in the console, but when I unplug an HBA (I have QLE 2560 HBAs) no message is received by OME.

Is this the expected behavior?

Would it work if I used Openmanage Server Agent on the server hosting the HBA and configuring SNMP traps to be sent by the OS?

Thanks

OME db instance case-sensitive; but it's not

Server 2012 R2 trying to do a fresh install of OME 1.3.

Server has pre-existing install of a case-INsensitive named instance of 32 bit SQL Express 2012 SP1.

I installed another 32 bit instance named SQLEXPRESSOME and selected remote db during OME install.  But when I get to Database Server part of the install it won't let me continue because it says my selected instance is case sensitive.

I know it's not because when I installed the new instance I selected Collation as case-INsensitive.  And when I look at the properties of the SQLEXPRESSOME instance it shows Collation as SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS.

I also re-verified the pre-existing instance is also case-INsensitive.

So why won't the install let me continue?

Unable to resume system update, or retrieve progress.

Hi,

From our OME 1.3 and to a CentOS 6.5 (in a M620), I was hit by the bug described in 2012 about the ssh key stored in a bad place or in a bad manner, and I was able to cope with it using the deploy trick.

Now the communication between OME and this server is OK, I can see in the /var/log/secure that ssh connection are OK.

I'm trying to apply a BIOS update, and though the package download is succesful, the apply part  seems stalled, saying :

"Unable to resume system update, or retrieve progress."

Next message is in french, sorry, I don't know how to translate it correctly :

"No update condition may be given when simultaneous attempt of software upgrade is run on the same server" or something.

I have absolutely no idea where to look at or how to debug.

Best regards.

Discovery conflict between two servers

I have had this issue for a very long time. Defiantly since the first version of OME and i think it even goes back several version of ITA. Two of my 10 Poweredge 1955 servers are conflicting with each other in OME somehow. Server 3 will not show up in OME as long as Server 4 is online. If i stop SNMP on Server 4 and run the discovery Server 3 shows up immediately and i can see all the related data for that server. However if i start SNMP on server 4 and run discovery again Server 4 shows up and Server 3 disappears. I have uninstalled and re-installed SNMP and OMSA on both servers with no help. Any suggestions are welcome.

System Update - non-compliant systems but no updates needed

I am using OME 1.3 on a 2008R2 server. I have 4 Server 2012 R2 Standard servers that show up as Non-Compliant Systems. When I click on them though, there aren't any updates to apply and if I manually boot in to System Services it shows everything as being up to date. How do I get the servers out of Non-Compliant to Compliant?

Miscellaneous Unknown Servers

I am in the process of getting OME working. I’m running version 1.3 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Box. I’m going through the same steps before running the discovery. I edit the SNMP service TRAP and SECURITY with my string and put in my OME server on each tab. I install the latest Open Manage Server Administrator 7.4 on the server and run the discovery. I have random servers that stay in the unknown stage. I know they are running the exact same hardware as other servers. I’m running discovery and inventory using only SNMP service. The servers coming up are Windows Servers 2008 R2. I’ve used the Troubleshooting Tool to test SNMP and it is working. I’ve completely uninstalled Server Administrator and reinstalled and applied the service patch. I’ve restarted the DSM SA Data Manager Service. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

evntwin for capturing Windows event log traps

$

Hi,

I'm trying out evntwin and evntcmd to convert Windows log events to traps and send them to the SNMP monitoring server. I have OME as the SNMP monitoring server and it shows those events as unkown.

Is there any way to parse those type of traps to something known for OME?

Is there any other better way to achieve that? I just want to know about errors from Windows event logs.

Thank you.
