OME Inventory Collector Error with Ubuntu 14.04

Hello,

I'm getting the following error message in the "OpenManage Essentials (OME)" web interface (under "Manage/System Update/Issues And Resolutions For Updates") after doing a discover/inventory of a freshly built server:

Error Message:
"Reason: Inventory collector is not installed on this server
Recommendation: Mount OMSA DVD on the server. Install 'srvadmin-cm' rpm and restart OMSA services. Once install completes re-inventory the server with OME"

The server using the "OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA)" client is running Ubuntu 14.04 (64-bit) and the OME version 1.3 server is running Windows 2008 R2.

Here's the corresponding section of the install script used to build with "root" rights after first boot at build time (all "$VARIABLES" are predefined accordingly):

echo -e "\n############ INSTALLING SNMP - `date` ############\n"
apt-get -y install snmpd snmp snmp-mibs-downloader

sed -i "s;-p /var/run/snmpd.pid;-p /var/run/snmpd.pid -c /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf;" /etc/default/snmpd
cp --archive --verbose /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf /etc/snmp/snmpd.orig.conf

service snmpd start

echo -e "\n############ INSTALLING DELL OPENMANAGE SERVER ADMINISTRATOR (OMSA) - `date` ############\n"
echo -e "deb http://linux.dell.com/repo/community/ubuntu $OS_CODE_NAME openmanage" | tee "/etc/apt/sources.list.d/linux.dell.com.sources.list"

apt-get update
apt-get -y install srvadmin-all
echo -e "\n$USER * Administrator" | tee -a "/opt/dell/srvadmin/etc/omarolemap"

Any help with this error would be greatly appreciated!

DELL OME 1.3 Status spooling not updating server status

Hi All, on dell OME 1.3, fresh installation. since some days I have this issue; the Status spooling is not updating server status for "unknown servers" via ICMP, therefore i don't recieve "system up" o "down" updates for the "unkonwn" servers and devices. Sometimes after rebooting the server it works agian, sometimes not, however then it stops to work. Dell trubleshooting tools tells that there are no problems with ICMP test; the "unknown" server status (on or off) updates correctly if i run manually the "refesh inventory" task on that server (but the inventory task does not sends email alerts) I've checked that maybe there is a similar issue for an older version of OME: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/f/4494/t/19474663.aspx?pi21122=1 Any suggestions or fixes? Thank you!

PERC6/E firmware updates

On a bunch of R610's when I go into the "Unified Server Configurator" to do a platform update on firmware the firmware for the PERC 6/E adapters shows an update available. Everytime!

What's happening is the software source is seeing two available updates: 6.3.3.0002 and 6.3.3-0002.
Notice the dash versus dot difference. They seem to be the same update but the dash/dot thing makes it think there's an update available. It would just ping pong back and forth between those two versions if I let it.

I keep an up to date mirror of the ftp.dell.com site because the download speeds for updates otherwise is not good and I've checked that it's current.  I've also on a few machines occasionally pointed it to ftp.dell.com directly and get the same results.

Is there a way to fix this on my end or is this something that has to be fixed by Dell and whoever manages the ftp site and it's available updates?

Passing Arguments to External Command in OME using Alert Application Launch - How to obtain multi-line strings

$

Dear Dell,

Using the external command functionality included in Dell OpenManage Essentials (Alert Application Launch) is there a way to pass the multi-line string arguments as variables?

As unfortunately some of the alerts that are generated are contained in strings that span across multiple lines (\n \r characters).

As a result of this when passing these arguments to an external command the majority of the contents of the string are lost as it is contained on the next line e.g. output of $m for a redundancy lost alert:

"Redundancy lost
Redundancy unit: System Board PS Redundancy
Chassis location: Main System Chassis
Previous redundancy state was: Normal"

As a result the above when passed as an argument will only provide "Redundancy lost" and not provide information for the rest of the alert.

Is there a hotfix available to only parse the string contained in $m as a single-line instead of multi-line so that it can be passed as a variable via an external command?

As unfortunately the standard windows shell does not handle new lines (LF, etc) without using '^' character and since the result is already parsed it is unable to be escaped.

The only possible workaround is to pass all of the arguments to a text file to be read.

Unfortunately this method can cause possible race condition issues when alerts are received on the exact same interval. Which would then require another command to run on a different schedule to then read the contents line by line.

I'm surprised the $m argument does not already facilitate to trim all '\n\r' characters from the alerts parsed in order for them to be passed as arguments via the command-line. Looking forward to a hotfix or patch to make this task easier.

Keep up the great work Big Smile

Looking forward to a solution.

RAID Status in LCD display different from Open Manage

Hi!

I have a Dell PowerEdge R710 Server with 4 x SAS 146GB 15kprm disks originally configured as a RAID5 array trough the PERC 6/i integrated controller then mounting VMware ESXi 5.1.0 799733.

Some weeks ago the disk in tray 1 stated a fault status, so I bought two new disks Seagate ST3146356SS (the same as the ones mounted, one for changing the broken one and the other for future spare) and hot swapped the one in fault. I don't know why but it doesn't seem to work (the LED is still orange, while the others trays are green, while the LCD display states: System Software event: Drive Slot sensor, drive fault was asserted).

I also successfully installed the Dell Open Manage VIM 7.4.0-876 in VMware and trough another OpenManage Server Administrator installed in a Windows 2012 Server virtual machine connecting to the VMware host IP address I can manage it.

Now the question is: why the Open Manage shows me everything is ok (green mark) except from the firmware version while the LCD display continues bugging me about the drive 1 fault? Why the new disk doesn't appear in the Physical Disks inside the Enclosure Backplane but in a Physical Disks external container with a different LUN ID in the name (I also post a screenshot about this; "Sistema" is the name of the RAID5 array)? Is everything really ok, I mean: the RAID has been rebuilt so there is a fault tolerance once again and I now can sleep peacefully or not?

Thank you in advance!

Custom firmware Addon

Hi,

Recently started using Dell Repository Manager with OME and currently in configuration stage.

We are using SUU version 741 as a repository catalog and would like to know if it is possible to add custom firmware (ESM_Firmware_XH6FX_WN64_1.57.57_A00) to this repository.

Is this possible and if so how?

OME firewalls and port requirements

I have installed OME in a locked down DMZ that is highly secure and has a number of different network segments separated by firewalls.. I have installed OMSA on Windows 2012 physical servers and ESXi 5.1 hosts. I also have physical hosts running Linux OS. OME can connect correctly to iDRAC for each server but not to OMSA

Can you please advise exactly what firewall ports need to be opened to allow communication between OME and OMSA and also between OME and iDRAC?

Thank you

OME 1.3.0 doesn't load updates for non-compliant R720xd

I've updated OME to 1.3.0.1533 on Monday to can inventory new R720xd/ESXi 5.5.0 server. Server moved from non-inventoried to non-compliant systems then and I saw 4 avalaible updates after downloading the latest catalog (current versions: BIOS 2.2.2, 6Gbps SAS HBA 07.03.06.00, Lifecycle Controller 1.4.0.128, Enterprise UEFI Diagnostics 4233A0).

I wanted to update server today but no updates to apply are loaded if I select it in non-compliant systems regardless of whether I select iDRAC or OMSA as prefered update mode. Updates for other R610 are loaded If I enable downgrades (it was updated earlier).

Any idea, please?

DRAC7 FW update not showing for several systems

When I look at non-compliant systems in the System Update area, several servers with older DRAC7 firmware are not showing the update to the latest version 1.57.57.  Some servers DO show the update though (and it seems to be servers that already have a pretty recent version of the firmware, like 1.50+).

Servers with older versions don't show the upgrade.  For instance:

1.06.06 (Build 15)
1.20.20 (Build 24)
1.23.23 (Build 1)
1.30.30 (Build 43)
1.35.35 (Build 7)
1.37.35 (Build 2)
1.40.40 (Build 17)

Any ideas?

Ok so this is my first run at this and i scheduled one of my servers to run it's updates.  it copies the files to that system but it fails.  The funny this is that files are in that location and i can see them when i remote to that server.

Results: File deploy command failed to execute with error message: Unable to connect to the remote system.

What is best practice if i host two hyper-v host servers in my DMZ and run OME in my LAN?  I see the servers but they come up as unclassified.  Thanks.

OME 1.3 won't detect NX3500

Hi,

today I gave OME another try.

I've added a range to one of our remote location which server had OMSA installed, detection went fine.

Than I added the range for my NX3500 and MD32xx. The MD devices where detected fine, but not the NX

I tried the range for the Private IPs of the controllers, the VIP, with ssh and with MD/EMSC detection, nada.

Are there some special settings to be made on the NX?

Dell OpenManage Essentials 1.1.0 and Physical/Virtual Drive information

$

We have OME installed on a server, and we've been monitoring servers with it. I just added clients, which are Dell Precision T3500s mostly, and I've installed OMCI on the clients. The clients got discovered, and I'm getting inventory and health data, but I'm not getting any information on either physical disks, or virtual drives on either the clients or the servers. Am I missing a setting someplace, or is it not supported with this version, and I'll have to upgrade to the latest version?

Report for Power Redundancy

$

Hi,

We recently had to change a couple of UPS's in a Datacenter because they were about to blow up!!! Literally!!

When we did this, each rack lost a side of its power, but since we we had redundant power supplies then all would be OK. At least that is what we thought should happen.

Out of about 850 servers, 10 did not stay up, but failed due to loss of power, even though they have multiple power supplies.

What we would like to know is, Can OME produce a report where each discovered server will show what redundancy level it has on Power Supplies?

Thx,

John Bradshaw

OME 1.3 - How can I configure email alerts to be sent out daily

$

I have successfully configured critical email alerts but it seems if a problem is found only 1 alert is sent.  I may have it configured incorrectly and hence my question.

I would like to receive an alert daily if possible, as this would remind me that there is a problem and it needs to be addressed.

OME 1.3 discovery not finding VM's running on ESXi host.

$

Hello,

I am attempting to discover Windows Server 2008 R2 / 2012 VM's running on an ESXi 5.0 host. The host has OMSA, WSMAN, and SNMP enabled and the guest has SNMP configured and working correctly according to the results from the Dell Troubleshooting Tool SNMP test. At this time OME is associating 1-2 of the VM's running on a host if it associates any at all which is making this very strange. The environment is configured based on the information in the Dell white paper for discovering virtual machines so I am running out of options.

Anyone run into this before or have any suggestions?  Thanks

Cannot execute update task in OME

I'm getting the following error when I try to run an update task:

"Results: File deploy command failed to execute with error message: Invalid Network Credentials were specified when connecting the share."

I cannot find any information on configuring SSH on this box? Is there a built-in SSH server/service on these servers (R710 w/ latest iDRAC).

Am I supposed to use iDRAC credentials, domain credentials or local administrator credentials?
