I have OME 1.2.1. Everytime I try to run a system update task it fails. The copy portion is successful

Copied 3 of 3 packages to C:\Program Files
(x86)\Dell\SysMgt\Essentials\SystemUpdate\Packages on DURHAM-DELLOM.

however the task fails

The task failed for the target device.

Fail

What's needed to make this work, the target machine's firewall is off, and the target is being inventorired fine.

Thanks

Eric

OME 1.3 & OM 7.4.0 Question

$

Hi,

I have three questions...

Here is a quick background...

First, we have Dell's IT Assistant 8.9.0 setup and working in our environment.

I am working on replacing IT Assistant with OME 1.3

I have chose one of our Dell R410 servers for our OME Server...

It had OM 6.2 installed, and OM 6.2 & the R410's SNMP services were setup to point to IT Assistant.

So, on this R410 server, I first uninstalled OM 6.2, I did not reboot, I then installed OM 7.4.0

I successfully launch OM 7.4.0, and first checked the "Alert Management" tab, and the "Platform Events" sub tab, I was surprised that the "Destinations" had retained the IT Assistant's IP address. I closed OM 7.4.0 and then started on the OME 1.3 install.

The OME 1.3 install went fine and I have it up & running...

I then went looking for documentation on setting up / configuring OM 7.4.0 to correctly work with OME 1.3.

Ok, this is where my questions begin...

1. I have looked on the Dell OpenManage Essential Dell website for documentation on setting up OM to work with OME and only found one article, "Making My Environment Manageable.pdf".

This article only speaks of setting up SNMP, which I have already done.

So my question is...

Ok, I have installed OM 7.4.0....

Do I need to configure / set up anything inside OM 7.4.0 to correctly work with OME 1.3?

Most notable, the "Alert Management" tab?

What are the correct settings for Alert Actions, Platform Events, & SNMP?

Anything else that needs setup in OM to correctly work with OME?

Question 2....

This morning when I opened OM 7.4.0 to review, I clicked on  the "Alert Management" tab and noticed that I only have two subtabs; Alert Actions & SNMP Traps, the Platform Events subtab is no longer there? Does anyone know why?

Question 3...

From inside  OME 1.3, could you let me know what settings / configurations are needed on the newly brought in OM 7.4.0 server?

Thanks

Custom Alert Filter

Is there a way to filter alters by content? I have a bunch of messages that I would like to turn off. One is the Controller warning about non-certified drives. I want to allow OME to still be able send alerts for other Controller warnings. So far that is the one Altiris feature that is missed.

SNMP traps not being seen on OME

Running OME 1.2 using successfully for 2 years

We have seen the following behaviour twice in the last seven days. I have fixed with a reboot of the server.

Traps stop arriving on the OME server.

Netstat -an shows that the server is listening on UDP port 161,162

I have noticed that in services the SNMP trap service is running on the OME server. Should this be stopped or is this not an issue?

I am going to continue my own investigations but interested on any cluses anybody may have.

OpenManage Essentials Database re-target process

This is the process for re-targeting a Database in the OpenManage Essentials management console.

1. Backup Database – OMEssentials DB(where OME was installed)

2. Copy the DB to another server

3. Restore DB (this can be performed only by a sysadmin)

4. Create a new user with “db_owner” , “sysadmin” and “public” privileges

5. On the system where OME is installed, enter following commands

  • sqlcmd /E -Q "select name from sys.syslogins"
  • sqlcmd /E -Q "ALTER LOGIN [OMEService] WITH PASSWORD='DummyPassword'"

6. Launch OME

7. Database login error displayed. Click OK

.

 8. DB Connection error window is displayed.

9. Enter server name where OME DB was restored.  Also enter username and password of the new user(that was created in step 4)

10. Launch OME

11. Reset IIS

12. Restart OME services (or restart server)

13. Change the user privileges from sysadmin to dbowner. (This is done on the server where was DB was restored).

Note: You may delete the DB where OME was installed after the retarget is complete

Monitoring OptiPlex devices via OMCI in OME

Hi,

I've been starting to install Dell's OMCI agent on a few OptiPlex PC's to test out some of the functionality, compared to the OMSA agent on our PowerEdge servers.

I've enabled SNMP on the PCs, and my OME instance is able to discover them and grab a basic inventory.  However, I noticed that the PCs are being classified as Servers, not Clients.  Is this because they were discovered via SNMP and not WMI?

Also, from OME, I'm not able to poll the PC for Hardware Logs - I get a "Request returned with empty logs" error.  Is this a limitation of OMCI agent installed on OptiPlex hardware?  Or can I expect different results using WMI?

Ultimately, should I be using WMI instead of SNMP for the monitoring of these PCs?

Thanks,

Chadd

BIOS Upgrade - 1.2 to 1.10

Hi All,

I just installed the OME tool and discovered my Dell devices. On my R910 the current BIOS version is 2.2. The suggested update from OME is 2.10. Is it possible to request all the upgrade files between 2.2 and 2.10 ? I don't want to upgrade all the way from 2.2 to 2.10. Some people suggested that this could lead into some issues.

Thanks!

Server Administrator not updating in OME

I have a server running 32bit Server 2008. I have the latest Server Administrator 7.4. It is showing as an unknown server. I have verified the SNMP service is running and has the correct information. I have used the Dell Troubleshooting Tool. Name Resolution, Port, Services, SNMP all come back without any errors or issues. It is still not pulling in all the information in OME. Thanks, Kevin Fisher

OME 1.3 Retarget Database from SQL 2012 to SQL 2014 Cluster

I have an existing OME 1.3 install attached to a remote SQL 2012 database.  Backing up and restoring the database wasn't working because of permissions on the Cluster Shared Storage, so I have been using SQL Server Import Export Wizard.  The wizzard completes, I shutdown the old server, restart OME, get the new DB credentials window, fill in the correct information, but when it starts up, I get the following logs in the browser.  Does anyone know what I need to do to fix this?

OME next version

Hello,

I would like to be able to produce a clean report on all Dell servers (that have been discovered using DRAC only credentials), so that any URGENT updates are listed.

I cannot see how to do that now in 1.3, but will the next version have that ability?

Ta,

John Bradshaw

Unknown Servers in OME

I know that this is a common issue, but after doing the troubleshooting steps that i have found i am still having the issue. Some of my servers are listing as unknown and unclassified in OME even though the settings are the same as the servers that are correctly displayed. The SNMP settings are the same but when i run the trouble shooting tool i am not receiving OME data.

A correct server:

and an incorrect one:

even though the settings are the same on each server. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced.  Oh and both of these servers are Server 2008 R2

SNMP issues with IDRAC

I have Vmare ESXI installed on my Dell server. I have tried installed the VIb bundle which was successful and the dell troubleshooting tool can verify the SNMP through my Vmware Management IP.

However i want to use the IDRAC and i have configure the community string using the IDRAC interface but dell troubleshooting tools but i keep getting the error

The SNMP read request has failed for Get Community name - test.

I'll be glad if anyone can assist me on this.

N.B. I read on the forum that there are two option to configure SNMP on the IDRAC .I can only find one.If anyone can point me in the right direction, that will be great

Unable to see Virtual Machines under a Hyper-V Server

Hi, I've just 'discovered' OME. Looks great. However, I'm not seeing any virtual machines listed under my Microsoft Virtualisation Servers. The Hyper-Vs themselves are discovered fine, but the Virtual Machines branch is just empty - the virtual servers hosted on these boxes are shown under 'Unknown'. I've enabled SNMP as per the documentation and WMI on both physical and virtual machines and re-ran the Discovery and Inventory on several occasions without success. Any ideas? Have I missed something obvious. OME Version: 1.3.0.1533 Thanks,

OME Wont Show Virtual Machine's Information

Hello

I have recently installed the VIB bundle on my server.I have configured SNMP on it. and when i was running the inventory, i use the WS-MAN and SNMP .it was able to get most of the information i want like hardware errors and warranties but its not showing anything related to Virtual Machines

When running the scan, i use the IDRAC iP address( My ESXI Host's is on a different subnet), ,configured the SNMP but i cant see any VM information.

The SNMP test seems to be successful from the PowerCLI because i can see the SNMP warm start message on OME everytime i do that.

Can someone please point me in the right direction please?

Inventory of Servers using SNMP only vs WS-MAN

Hello,

After running a full discovery and inventory of our fleet via the DRAC using only credentials for SNMP/IPMI, OME asks if a discovery and inventory can also be performed using WS-MAN.

Why is it recommending this? (Only 25% of our fleet would be running esx)

Is there a way to mass add a USER ID and p/w for WS-MAN?

Thx

Hi,

Is Catalog.cab the same at:

ftp://downloads.dell.com/catalog/catalog.cab

and

ftp://ftp.dell.com/catalog/catalog.cab

(I'm having trouble getting to the 1st one, but not the second).

Thx
